Privacy Policy

This policy covers Lexitaire on iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, and in your browser (developed by Marc Abramowitz). Lexitaire uses tiles reminiscent of SCRABBLE® but is otherwise unaffiliated with that game or its trademark holders — that's unrelated to how it handles your data, covered below.

Data we collect

Lexitaire has no user accounts, no sign-up, and no way to know who's playing. It does use three third-party services, described in the next two sections — TelemetryDeck for anonymous usage analytics, Google Analytics for website traffic, and Google for advertising — plus, on iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV only, an anonymous game-report feature described further below.

Analytics

Lexitaire uses TelemetryDeck (EU-hosted) to understand overall usage — things like how often a game mode is played or a hint is used. Most signals are just a fixed event name plus small, coarse details (never a raw timestamp); one exception is that each word you play sends the word itself and its exact score, to help study board quality and word-length patterns across languages. TelemetryDeck never receives your name, device ID, IP address, or anything else that identifies you personally. This is on by default on every platform, and can be turned off in Settings (“Share Anonymous Analytics”).

Separately, the Lexitaire website itself — this page, the FAQ, blog, and other marketing pages, plus the browser game — uses Google Analytics to understand site traffic: pages visited, how visitors found the site, and general device/location information, via a cookie in your browser, under Google's own privacy practices. This is independent of TelemetryDeck above and doesn't apply inside the native iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV app.

Advertising

Lexitaire shows ads to support development: the iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV app uses Google AdMob, and the browser version uses Google Ad Manager, for the same two things — a “watch an ad” option for hints, and an occasional ad between games. Showing an ad may involve Google collecting a device advertising identifier and general technical information used to select and measure ads, under Google's own privacy practices. If you're in the EU or UK, the browser version asks for your consent before any ad-related request is made at all — declining means that feature just doesn't happen for you, not that something else is shown instead.

Anonymous game reports

The same “Share Anonymous Analytics” setting mentioned above also controls a separate feature, on by default: when a game finishes, its starting board, the words you played on it, your final score, and your device's general language/region are sent to our own server, so a later update can show how your score compares to other players on the same board. No name, account, or device identifier is included. Turning the setting off in Settings stops this too. This applies on every platform, including the browser version.

Data stored on your device

Your board, current game, top-10 scores, and settings (language, tile style, background, timer preference, and so on) are saved locally on your device using standard iOS/tvOS storage — never sent to us or anyone else. If you choose a custom photo for the board background, that photo is copied locally to the app's own storage, not uploaded anywhere. Deleting the app deletes all of this.

Looking up a word

Tapping a played word to see its definition opens the relevant language's Wiktionary page inside the app. That request goes directly to Wiktionary (run by the Wikimedia Foundation), which has its own privacy practices separate from ours — we don't add any tracking of our own to that request.

Challenging a friend / sharing a result

Lexitaire lets you share a board, score, or result with someone else using the system share sheet (Messages, Mail, AirDrop, or whatever else you have installed). That share only includes what you chose to send — your board, your score, and, if you've set one, the display name you entered in Settings. We don't see who you send it to, and sending it doesn't tell us anything.

Opening a shared challenge or result link fetches a small preview page from mintyfreshapps.com/lexitaire. That page has no database and sets no cookies — it only ever reads back the information already present in the link you were sent, purely to render the preview image and open the app.

Suggesting a translation

Settings includes a "Suggest a Translation" option. This opens your own Mail app with a pre-filled message addressed to the developer — you choose whether to review, edit, and send it. We only receive whatever information is in an email you actually choose to send us; we don't collect your email address any other way.

Children's privacy

Since Lexitaire doesn't collect data from anyone, it doesn't knowingly collect data from children either. We don't even know a user's age or gender.

Changes to this policy

If Lexitaire's data practices ever change (for example, if a future update adds analytics or advertising), we'll update this page first and note the change here.
