Is Lexitaire free to play?
Yes — Lexitaire is free to play on every platform. The browser version at mintyfreshapps.com/lexitaire/web_game/ is free, no account required. The native app for iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV is also free, on the App Store.
-
Does it work without an internet connection?
Yes, on every platform. The browser version is an installable app that keeps working offline once it's loaded once — install it from your browser's menu and it'll open and play without a connection afterward. The native app for iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV works offline too, once installed — its dictionaries are bundled with the app rather than fetched over the network.
-
Is there an Android version?
Not a native one, no. But the browser version plays great on Android, and installs just like an app — add it to your home screen from your browser's menu and it opens full-screen with its own icon, no Play Store needed. That works on just about any modern phone, tablet, or desktop, including iPhone and iPad. If you have an iOS device you'll probably enjoy the native app more, but nothing stops you from playing the browser version there too.
-
Can I play on my TV?
Yes — if you have an Apple TV, there's a native Lexitaire for Apple TV, playable with the Siri Remote. On other modern TVs, you can project your phone, tablet, or computer's screen — AirPlay, Chromecast, and similar screen-mirroring features all work, or a cable if your TV has a port for one but not those wireless features.
-
What languages can I play in?
Fewer than the app is localized into. There are two separate lists — the interface languages (menus, instructions, settings) and the smaller set of gameplay languages (the board, letter bag, and dictionary) — see the full languages list for both. Gameplay is the harder half to add: some scripts are much more complex to turn into tiles than an alphabet like Latin, Cyrillic, Arabic, or Hebrew, and for some languages a genuinely good word list is hard to find at all. But the two lists don't have to match. Your language doesn't need to be a gameplay option for you to use it for the interface. For example, you can play with English tiles while the menus are in Hindi or Telugu. You can suggest a new language too, for gameplay or just the interface. Or send a better translation, if you think you have one. Use the translation feedback form, or email msabramo@gmail.com.

Do I need an account, and is my data private?
No account is needed. Your saved game, settings, and top scores live in your browser's own local storage. See the Privacy Policy for the full details, including the optional, anonymous game-analytics setting.
-
How is my score calculated?
A word scores its letters' points, multiplied by the word's length — so longer words are worth disproportionately more than short ones. See our scoring tips for how to use that.
-
Can I check if a word is valid without playing?
Yes — the word lookup tool checks any word against the same dictionary the game uses, in any of the 24 languages it supports, and shows what it would score.
-
Can I play against a friend?
Yes — share your board and score as a link (or a QR code). Whoever opens it sees exactly what you played and can try to beat it.
-
Does my progress carry over between the browser and the app?
Not currently — the browser version and the native iPhone/iPad/Apple TV app each keep their own separate saved game and top-score history.

Are there leaderboards, achievements, GameKit support, etc.?
Not yet, but they're coming — keep an eye on the blog for when they ship.
