The dictionary
Lexitaire's Vietnamese word list comes from 1ec5/hunspell-vi’s “DauMoi” dictionary, tracing back to the Free Vietnamese Dictionary Project, licensed GPLv2. Challenge links in this language currently only work between browser-version players — the native app doesn't support it yet.
Letters & tiles
The letter bag is 189 tiles: 89 distinct letters, because tone marks change a word's meaning outright (“ma” ghost, “má” mother, “mà” but, “mả” grave, “mã” code, “mạ” rice seedling — six unrelated words differing only by tone), so every toned vowel gets its own tile rather than folding onto a plain one the way accents do elsewhere. The tile distribution is by far the largest bag Lexitaire deals — every letter gets a guaranteed minimum, THEN a full standard-size bag is layered on top, rather than one 100-tile bag shared between all 89 letters.

Worth knowing
- Vietnamese words can be as short as 2 letters (“ăn” eat, “đi” go) — this is the one language where Lexitaire allows 2-letter words instead of the usual 3-letter minimum.
- Vietnamese is monosyllabic, so a general dictionary's multi-syllable compound words don't have a natural single-token spelling for this game's tile mechanic — what's playable here is real vocabulary, just scoped to single-syllable words.
